Hawes & Curtis French Cuffed Shirt Review

via HawesandCurtis.com

via HawesandCurtis.com

Weekly Theme: Work Holiday Party

The next item on our list for the quintessential holiday work outfit is the shirt. Because we picked a more tux-like dinner jacket, a french cuffed shirt will go perfectly. This shirt from Hawes and Curtis (a London-based clothier) is simple and all you’ll need to achieve the classic, timeless look you’re going for. This 2-ply 100s shirt is super soft, comfy and slim fit, making it look as good as it feels. The only down-side is that it’s shortest sleeve length option is 33” meaning if you are shorter, tailoring may be in order.

Shoes are one of the most important elements of any outfit, and when it comes to a formal event like a wedding, picking the ones is crucial. These formal oxfords from Allen Edmonds are perfect for any semi-formal to formal occasion. Their premium leather and high quality construction lends to these shoes looking like new for 5 or more years (based on how well you take care of them). These specific dress oxfords have just the right amount of detailing on the toe to draw attention without yelling it, and the sole is rubber rather than leather meaning you won't slip into a deeper split than planned on the wedding dance floor. The classic styling will surely turn these into your formal wear staple for years.

Batik Cotton Pocket Square

via Nordstrom.com

via Nordstrom.com

Getting a pocket square that matches, or at least compliments your tie is hard to do but can truly make an outfit. Looking great in a suit is all about the details you add. This sky blue Batik Pocket Square From Nordsrtoms Men's Shop is a close match to the tie we posted yesterday, and both are cotton, meaning the textures will compliment each other. Regardless if you have the tie or not, this can also be paired with a light blue shirt, or even a plain white button down to add a little bit of color to your outfit. This pattern is also perfect because it isn't super bold, meaning mixing in other patterns from the tie or shirt won't clash,

Indochino Hayle Sharkskin Light Gray Suit

via Indochino.com

via Indochino.com

This week, our theme is wedding season. If you are in your mid to late 20's, chances are you have been to at least one so far this year, and now it's time to start thinking about what you are going to wear to the other 3-7 you have this year. To kick things off, let's go with the standard wedding attire canvas, the suit. Light gray is a safe color to go to, as many grooms these days are going with medium gray, navy blue, or black. This light gray is also a great for summer formal events, and can be worn to work, so it's not just a wedding party suit. This suit from Indochino is made to measure, meaning you give them your measurements, and they make a suit just for you. It shouldn't need tailoring, and if it does, you can stop into one of their showrooms to get it taken care of for free. In terms of quality, I personally have 3 Indochino suits, 2 of which are 5 years old and I still wear them today, which is more than I can say for my Jos. A. Bank suits. What's even better, Indochino lets you customize the suit to a pretty extensive degree, I suggest going with 2 buttons, dual vent, and a notch lapel. As for the liner, go crazy.

Bonobos Jetsetter Bright Navy Wool Blazer

via bonobos.com

via bonobos.com

I know what you're thinking, Bonobos is known for their pants, not their blazers. This is true, however, their designers are really amping up their game when it comes to garments going above the waist. The Jetsetter blazer is 98% Italian wool and 2% elastane, making it soft to the touch and has a bit a give for your on-the-go lifestyle. There is no thread count listed online, but based on feel we are thinking it's in the super 100s-super 110s range. Normally we wouldn't go the off-the-peg route, but with the high arm holes, and mildly aggressive tapering, you won't need to tailor this too much to get a more custom silhouette. This jacket is perfect to sport on your way to the office or the theater, heck this would be perfect for any semi-formal, or nice night out. We would pair it with chinos or a pair of dark-wash jeans, collared shirt, and brown chukkas. Go impress your date, family, or friends and step up your game.

Available on Bonobos.com for $400, but we would budget another $70 for tailoring.

This new tint on the horn-rimmed style glasses of yesteryear is an instant classic, regardless of when they came out. The style is inspired from the 50s/60's era glasses bringing back the best parts and updating the style as a whole. With a modern tortoiseshell patterned acetate brow and arms and steel rim under the lenses, these stunna' shades are super light weight and go with a casual dress code on the weekends and more formal office attire when you step out for lunch on a bright summer afternoon. These aren't your party shades, these are your "I'm sophisticated and I know it" type of shades. These are you work happy hour outside hater blockers or first bumble date to a beer garden kind of sunglasses. Make an impression while keeping those eye protected (they are polarized). We suggest wearing these with anything blue, brown, or earth-toned, avoid wearing with black.

Thom Sweeney Wool-flannel Trousers

via MrPorter.com

via MrPorter.com

A good garment that is made to last will cost you more. It's a fact. With H&M and others making throw away garments, we are becoming accustomed to paying less for things, forgetting they will only last us 4 months. A smart gentleman looks passed the current, the now, and into the future, to make investments in his wardrobe. These gray wool trousers from Thom Sweeney are exactly that, an investment. Designed with a tailored fit and side tabs at the waist for a more body-conforming construction, these are pants that you will be able to wear for the next 5 winters. We suggest you sport these with brown leather shoes and a navy sport coat. Or, mix it up and go a little more casual by throwing on a navy cable knit sweater.
