What's an Anorak? Well, turns out it's basically a parka. In this case, it's a nylon quarter-zip rain jacket. This lightweight overthrow is the perfect rain protection to toss in your hiking pack, or to keep handy during the prolonged rainy season we seem to be having in the US. Complete with an adjustable hood to keep it on you head during a down poor, and a vented back for temperature control, this piece is simple yet effective. To make it even easier to bring with you, the entire jacket folds into its front pouch pocket, taking up less space in your bag, and your closet. And at an $80 price point from a classic American brand, it's worth it.

Alpha Industries French Field Jacket

While the French didn't have the best time in WWII, their post-WWII military uniform did have style. This field coat is based on the 1950's era French military standard issue field jacket, complete with 3 different velcro patch mounts, two chest zipper pockets, side entry pockets for your hands, and an inside button pocket to secure your more valuable items, you'll have plenty of places for all of your "equipment." In addition, the herringbone cotton will keep you warm during the cooler mornings and night without over heating you during the day, not to mention it will give you some major rugged points. We suggest wearing this some black or blue jeans, layering it with a white v-neck and an open black button-down or hoodie, and a pair of off white canvas shoes or black boots.

The North Face is taking a page out of Gen X's High school closet with this new "windbreaker" jacket. Complete with a touch of flashy turquoise and a cargo front pocket, this jacket screams new age thrift store gem. The best part about it, is that you don't have to wash it 5 times before you feel you've gotten the previous owners smell out of the collar. This lightweight pull over is 100% polyester, water resistant and windproof, making it a great top layer for hiking, and for a quick walk to the store in March and April when every other day seems to have rain in the forecast. What's even better is that it has a hood that stays up on your head, unlike many of the designs from the 90's, releaving the need to walk with your head down just to stay dry.

Club Monaco Wool Cashmere Topcoat

via clubmonaco.com

via clubmonaco.com

We have jumped from PSL's to peppermint mocha's a little fast this year, so because of this, we are giving you the heavier stuff a bit early. Apparently Club Monaco got the same memo, and are having a sale on all of their jackets, including this awesome Wool Cashmere topcoat. The wool cashmere blend gives it a high-quality soft feel that is also durable enough for a sturdy topcoat. Complete with two flap pockets on the outside, lined interior pockets, and a welt breast pocket this jacket is designed like the classics with a more modern fit. While this topcoat is definitely an invest that is well worth it's cost, it won't go out of fashion any time soon (as it hasn't yet since the 1920s). Wear it over your suit, blazer and slacks, jeans and button-down, or a sweatshirt, it goes with it all.

Bonobos Jetsetter Bright Navy Wool Blazer

via bonobos.com

via bonobos.com

I know what you're thinking, Bonobos is known for their pants, not their blazers. This is true, however, their designers are really amping up their game when it comes to garments going above the waist. The Jetsetter blazer is 98% Italian wool and 2% elastane, making it soft to the touch and has a bit a give for your on-the-go lifestyle. There is no thread count listed online, but based on feel we are thinking it's in the super 100s-super 110s range. Normally we wouldn't go the off-the-peg route, but with the high arm holes, and mildly aggressive tapering, you won't need to tailor this too much to get a more custom silhouette. This jacket is perfect to sport on your way to the office or the theater, heck this would be perfect for any semi-formal, or nice night out. We would pair it with chinos or a pair of dark-wash jeans, collared shirt, and brown chukkas. Go impress your date, family, or friends and step up your game.

Available on Bonobos.com for $400, but we would budget another $70 for tailoring.

Indochino Navy Plaid Seersucker Blazer

Summer is for seersucker, and if we have as mild of a Fall as we did last year, so is most Fall (thanks, Al Gore). When you think seersucker, chances are you weren't thinking this, which is why we like so much. It's a more formal, less stereotyped seersucker blazer that has a formal quality the classic blue and white stripe design doesn't. This jacket is 50% wool, 43% cotton, and 7% spandex meaning it will have the structure of wool, the soft touch and breathability of cotton, and have some added stretch for when your evening out gets a little rowdy and you need to bust a move. And for those out there thread counting, you're looking at super 120s meaning it is for regular wear. Right now Indochino is having a summer sale with the code ENDLESS that is only on for another 3 days so grab this sucker soon.

Available on sale at Indochino.com for $280 (46% off from $520)

Brooks Brothers Quilted Jacket

Yes, the hottest days of summer are still to come, but prepping for the cooler night-time strolls through town is still in play. That's where this lightweight quilted Brooks Brothers jacket comes in. It's great for keeping in your car just in case the mercury falls lower than you expected and is the perfect outer layer for your summer camping trip. It has a three outer pocket construction (two hand and one breast), snap front closures, and a double vent in the back that can be snapped closed if the temperature gets too low. The outer layer is nylon, so it is mildly water resistant but not enough to warrant wearing in a downpour, so beware if you wear this as a weather deterrent.  Beyond all of this, the look is classic, and the cut is fairly modern, so you are sure to look damn good in it. You can wear this with almost anything, though we would suggest long pants at least.

Available on sale at BrooksBrothers.com for $137 (down from 228)

We suggest you wear it with dark wash jeans, black jeans, or burgundy chinos coupled with a solid light gray or white shirt.

Baracuta G4 Modern Classic Bomber Jacket

via baracuta.com

via baracuta.com

Baracuta is a British brand that makes all of their jackets in England. The G4 is no exception. The water resistant outer layer keeps you dry from the rain, while the umbrella'd back vent and tartan patterned cotton Coolmax liner wicks away any interior moisture keeping you dry from yourself. The jacket has some inspiration from traditional biker jackets in its dual button clasp at the neck and the flap pockets in front give it a distinct look as most similar jackets will be sans flaps. This is perfect for the April rains soon to come. Prep now and grab one.

The North Face Revolve 2 Hooded Jacket

via backcountry.com

via backcountry.com

If the weather so far in March is any indication of how April will go, you are going to need a good rain jacket. While this one isn't going over your suits, it is still important to keep yourself dry when meandering about on your off time during the rainy season in the eastern half of the US. This North Face Revolve Jacket is light weight, with a relaxed fit to go over your spring layers without scrunching them or allowing the tails to peak out of the bottom. The outside is 100% rain proof, which is the basis of what you need in a rain jacket (obviously). What The North Face does well, and is apparent in this jacket, is heat and sweat permeation. The polyester mesh lining wicks sweat away and the vent design keeps the interior of the jacket comfortable while you trek to the train station during a downpour. An essential for hiking in the spring, and a perfect light jacket to throw on when hitting the grocery store.

However, if you want a leather jacket that is a bit different from the norm and has a lot of character, then be sure to grab this biker-bomber hybrid. This jacket has the fit of a bomber, but the leather construction of a classic biker. The inclusion of asymmetrical zippers and a button fastening strap across the neck with a straight zipper closure mixes traditional punk style with a more clean racing style design culminating in Frankenstein-esque final product that looks awesome.
