Weekly Theme: Winter Warmers

For those heading into work freezing under their work-appropriate coat, with only a crisp button-down on underneath, consider adding something like this sweater from Brooks Brothers. A top layer over your button-down is the best way to add warmth without taking away comfort or steez. This lambswool cable crew neck from Brooks Brothers is super soft, and looks great in any cold weather work place. While this will keep your core warm, it sadly won’t melt the heart of your boss’ secretary, that, only flowers and favors can do. Stay warm, stay alert, get promoted.

Weekly Theme: Winter is Coming

Winter is wool time. This goes for your topcoat, your blazer, and your tie. This wide plaid has just enough character to be interesting without being obnoxious. The tie bar offers this tie in a 2.5 inches for the skinny fans, and a 3 inch for the more traditional or larger body types. This will be perfect on a white collard shirt and under a blue blazer for your more formal events this winter. Go with the texture and the warmth, go with a wool tie like this guy.

Robert Graham Pollard Perfect Fit Pants Review

via RobertGraham.com

via RobertGraham.com

This week’s theme is one of variance. Jeans have always been a staple, but with a shift in jean trends coming seemingly every 18 months we are offering some alternatives for the Fall season. Starting off, we give you something a little different. These chinos from Robert Graham are oozing with character. The base pattern for these is a micro chevron, layered with a pin-dot style dobby print, giving these pants more visual textured than most. The taper is slim but not overly skinny, and is designed with a standard 5-pocket construction, making them as familiar in feel as they are different in look. Be different and and set an example that’s less lemming and more leader.

Bonobos Summer Weight Chinos

via Bonobos.com

via Bonobos.com

These are not your Dad's chinos. These chinos are designed to be ultra light and, should you select the slim or tailored fit, your legs won't go swimming in them like the business casual patriarchs of yesteryear.  They are the perfect bottom for nicer, outdoor occasions during the warmer months, great for the tee box, and they go well with your buddy's yacht and a fitted Polo. So if you have to cover up those chiseled calves you perfected over the winter months, you might as well do your best to not cause any unneeded lower body sweat and put on pants that are as thin as possible.

via tmlewin.co.uk

If you are a guy that wears business casual or more formal dress to work, chances are you try to use these shirts for other occasions like weddings, art shows, and other nicer events. It makes perfect fiscal sense to buy shirts that can do both. It is in that vein we give you this micro dogtooth non-iron shirt from T.M.Lewin. The non-iron twill makes it easy to unpack and wear in a pinch, and the tight houndstooth-style design gives it some visual depth without yelling it at you, making it a perfect workin' to twerkin' shirt. We suggest wearing this with some navy chinos for the more casual space, and a light or medium gray suit for those attending a fancy function or important meeting.

Club Monaco Lux 5-pocket Corduroy

via Clubmonaco.com

via Clubmonaco.com

We were scouring the online sale rack of Club Monaco (where we end up at least once every 3 days) and stumbled on these bad boys. These cotton blend corduroy pants from Club Monaco have a classic jean-style 5-pocket construction, a slim cut through the leg, and are made of a cotton blend that includes a hint of stretch so bending down to pet your dog won't result in any ripped seams or abrupt crouching halts due to excess tension around the knees. So pet away, just remember to lint roll them after to get all of that dog hair off of you. Right now they are 30% off so take advantage while you can. We suggest wearing them with a gray henley (like the pick from yesterday) or a simple white button for a smart look that can't go out of style if it tried.

Available on sale at ClubMonaco.com for $70 (normally $99)

Everlane Straight Fit Pant

via Everlane.com

via Everlane.com

Everlane's pants are usually a slimmer fit, but guys with tree trunks for legs found that even with the elastane integrated into the cotton, they were still just too tight of a cut. So, Everlane came out with these, a straight-leg version of their classic chino-style pant. They are also 98% cotton and 2% elastane like their slimmer predecessors and fall nicely on gents with thicker legs and butt.

One thing to note when buying online, the lengths lay a bit longer than they say (by about 2 inches) so if you a 30/32, you might want to go for a 30/30 instead. Also, a cool thing about Everlane, if you scroll to the bottom of their individual product pages you can see how much each product costs to make vs. how much they charge you for them... transparency = pretty cool.

Available on Everlane.com for $68

Drake's Blue Chambray Button-Down

Drake's is a famous English brand known across the globe for their 7-fold, high-quality ties. Drake's took this knowledge of fabric and tailoring applied to a soft blue chambray shirt, and made a super comfortable daily wearer. The cutaway collar is a classic design, and the buttons are mother-of-pearl from Austrailia. There are no buttons for the collar, so we suggest magnetic collar stays like wurkinstiffs. A fit note, the chest a good size for most based on their sizes, but consider minor tailoring for the waist if you are slimmer, as this is a standard fit shirt.

J. Crew Cotton-Twill Chinos

Cotton-twill is a great a texture for jackets and pants. It's a warm material for the winter that adds a different dynamic to an outfit than simple, flat cotton. These slacks are perfect for a business casual work environment, or for a nicer night out with friends. The charcoal color goes well with black, brown, and cordovan accessories, so you can't go wrong.
